Description

Q: What are the main features & specifications of the latest edition MSuper V3S+?

Q: There’s conflicting information on the Internet about the key specifications of the MSuper, why is that? How do I know what I’m getting?
A: Over the production life of a model, Gotway has a tendency of making continuous, & in some instances, quite dramatic changes to their Wheels. For the latest MSuper V3 that exists today, it has an upgraded control-board, more powerful motor, better wiring, brighter headlight, fan-assisted control-board cooling, safer charge port, & higher voltage battery pack. From the original MSupers that were produced over a year-&-a-half ago, on the inside (where it matters most) almost nothing is what it was then.

The Wheel that is offered here is the latest evolution of the V3 line, with a new 2,000W motor, 500W more powerful than the 2017 MSuper, & a higher maximum cruising speed [max recommended] of 30MPH. For those who demand the most powerful, fastest potential 18″ Wheel, then this could be the Wheel for you.

Q: Beside the battery sizes, are there other differences between the 1,300Wh/1600Wh Wheels?
A: Both the 1300Wh & 1600Wh are identical in terms of power output & top speed: the 1300Wh pack contains 120x of the 2.9Ah Panasonic NCR18650PF cells, while the 1600Wh pack has the same number of cells but with the higher capacity 3.5Ah Sanyo NCR18650GA type.

The actually capacity of the pack is slightly lower than what Gotway advertises:

  • 1300Wh Panasonic NCR18650PF pack: 2.9Ah (rated capacity) x 3.6V (nominal voltage) x 120 cells = 1252.8Wh
  • 1600Wh Sanyo NCR18650GA pack: 3.5Ah (rated capacity) x 3.6V (nominal voltage) x 120 cells = 1512Wh

Earliest versions the MSuper V3 (the ‘V3S+’ designates the newer model) operated at a lower voltage voltage of 67.2v, which limited the potential maximum speed of the Wheel to under 25MPH. With the introduction of the MSuper V3s+, the voltage has been raised to 84.2v. This voltage allows for a higher cruising speed by providing a larger buffer against ‘brown-outs’—this is where the voltage needed under demanding situations like climbing a steep hill or mountain, exceeds the available voltage of the battery pack.

Q: What are some of the benefits of the MSuper over the Tesla or Monster?
A: The MSuper V3s+ has the unique combination of 84v & large 1600Wh battery options. Reports from Tesla Owners are that it’s one exceptional machine, but is somewhat let down by the maximum battery pack size of only 1020Wh, limiting it’s appeal for some Power Users. With the latest 2000W motor, the MSuper now removes any performance gap between either the ACMv2 or Tesla. For all but the most hardened Riders, the Monster is just too big & unwieldy to be used in many situations where an Electric Unicycle would be used, like on sidewalks or difficult trails, while the MSuper is more nimble, it also has an integrated trolley handle, while the Monster & ACMv2 (although there is a bolt on option) does not.

Q: What is the expected range I can expect from this machine?
A: The three main factors that affect the range of an Electric Unicycle are 1) the Rider’s weight, 2) the type of terrain, especially hills, 3) speed. As an example, a 170lb Rider can expect to get about 25Wh/mile cruising at a continuous speed of 20mph on a flat road; with the 1600Wh battery pack, this should yield around 65 miles. Hill climbing requires a tremendous amount of energy, any simple Wh/mile calculation pretty much gets thrown out.

Q: How will the higher cruising effect range?
A: Quite significantly. Beyond 19mph most of the expended energy is spent overcoming aerodynamic drag. That said, the MSuper’s 1,300Wh/1,600Wh battery pack should be more than adequate for even the hardened Wheel-warrior who may feel the need to go the distance.

Q: What is a ‘Safe’ cruising speed of the Wheel?
A: While the MSuper V3s+ is capable of cruising speed at around 30MPH—the new 2000W motor gives you a great safety margin than before— using an Electric Unicycle (or other personal transportation product) at such a speed is not without hazard. At the very least, the Rider is strongly advised to wear wrist-guards, knee/elbow padding & a helmet, as an accident at this speed may result in serious injuries.

It’s also important to exercise restraint & due-care with using this powerful class of vehicle, opening up the throttle ONLY when it is appropriate & safe to do so.

Q: Do you stock spare parts for MSuper?
Yes, we will have a full complement of all the spare parts needed to totally reconstruct the Wheel, if necessary.

Some of the most common spare parts include:

  1. Spare tires & innertubes
  2. Replacement control-boards
  3. Wheel side panels
  4. Spare pedals
